Capacity Development
VIAP stands firm in its commitment to provide effective and value-added program management and construction management through sustainable training programs that will contribute significantly to a nation’s capacity development efforts. Our goal is to enhance and strengthen the individual and institutional effectiveness towards the achievement of a nation’s development agenda.
Currently, majority of VIAP’s workforce in Iraq are local engineers who are working towards the reconstruction of their country. With careful guidance and mentorship from our Senior Program Managers, VIAP has mentored and developed our Iraqi Associates in areas such as construction management, construction methods and standards, and project controls.
As part of our effort to raise the quality of construction in Iraq, VIAP has established the first and only American Concrete Institute (ACI) Chapter in Iraq. VIAP has been able to provide ACI certification to hundreds of engineers (both VIAP and government employees) in concrete inspection methods. In 2006, VIAP worked closely with key representatives, composed of Iraq Government, academe, and industry representatives in the development of the first Iraq Building Standards. Currently, the Iraq Building Standards is presented to the International Building Council for ratification.
